Yorkshire grapes

One of the challenges I undertook in the last two years was to look after a grape vine living in a greenhouse in Yorkshire. Having been given instructions in 2010 on how to ensure it fruits AND ripens, I have carefully checked the vine, pruned it when necessary and thinned the fruit out as I saw fit. This was quite easy in 2011 as the vine set off and more or less did it’s own thing to start with, the challenge though really began in 2012 when thoughts of  ‘did I prune it correctly last year‘, ‘has it been fed correctly‘ and ‘has it got sufficient water‘ soon started to concern me. Of course everything turned out right in the end. But this is often the way with any new gardening challenges, new plants, or indeed new ideas. Will it work? Will it go wrong? Will it die? If you don’t try you’ll never know, so jump in with both feet and see, the results are often better than expected! Notes: Grape variety: Unknown Age: Probably planted around the later 1970’s making it 30+ years old. Flavour:  Sweet, with a slight sharpness.
